11/6/2017 77 Comments The writers we love...Over the course of this unit, we will be studying narratives and plot. Start by thinking about your favorite fiction author. State who they are and what they've written, and then provide a brief analysis of what techniques they use as a story teller that make their plots, characters, tone, or writing style so intriguing to you. Discuss at least one specific example. Provide a link to a sample of their writing that you cited in your response, an article analyzing their writing style that you have summarized or referenced in your response, or a biographical article that you referenced that provides relevant insight to something that has influenced their writing style.

The author that I chose is Stephen E. King. He has written at least 98 books, only about 5 of them are series. My favorite series that he wrote is the shining series and the dark tower series. My favorite stand alone books that he wrote are "Cell", "IT", "Under The Dome," and "Joyland." The technique that King uses is Stephen King creates identifiable characters that create (almost always) immediate sympathy from readers because of flawed but human traits. an example of that is in "IT" one of the main protagonists" Beverly Marsh" was abused by her father. Another writing style that he does is that he sometimes tells the story by shifting it from two different time periods. Kings story's are also mostly told in third person. King also creates his theme using metaphors, and "magical Realism." A link to "IT" is : https://www.readanybook.com/ebook/it-2-565296 .

I have never wanted to and probably will never want to read a Stephen King book. They just seem WAY too scary for my taste! I've never really heard of IT until recently because of the hype for the new movie. Its interesting to know about how he talks about child abuse in the book, since it is a huge thing now and how he writes about it. Maybe now that I know that it is not all scary, I'll have to check it out!

Wow. You make the Stephen King books sound more interesting that I thought they were. I never have been a big fan of him, (Only because my brother ruined it for me) but I must admit, he is a talented author. I have always had an interest in movies and novels that are in the horror genre, but I never got into it. I like how you explained that the characters within his books have issues like normal people. They have backstories, but they aren't over the top crazy.

I like Stephen King a lot because his books are intense and mysterious. I never read “It”, but I watched both movies and they were great. I agree with what you said about how he makes you feel sympathy for the characters. That makes the reading a lot more meaningful and interesting. When I watched “It”, I immediately felt sympathy for Beverley when I saw how abusive and disgusting her father was.

I love Stephen King too! I'm shocked no one else picked him. I not only love Stephen's books, but I love the movies too. One thing I love about his books are that they are very long because they go into so much detail that not many other authors take the time to do. I recently bought his book "Tommyknockers" that is missing 24 pages out of the 747 pages it has. I will look up the first 24 pages so I can read the book because it sounds really good. I mean what book of his isn't good. One of my favorite books he has written out of them all is "It.". "It" is a very interesting book with so many twist, turns, and character development. I love how it's a horror story that not only scares you, but makes sure you every detail about a character even if they aren't important.

I also love Stephen King! My favorite novels of his are "The Stand", "The Shining", and his short story "1922."All of his characters are interesting, and despite not reading his books for a while, I can still clearly remember many of his characters. They were all imperfect, and because of that they felt like they were more relatable and real. Many authors will have characters who are static, and remain the same throughout the course of the story, but most of King's characters are dynamic, and have a changed a lot by the end of the story. This is another characteristic of his writing that I enjoy.

My favorite fiction author is James Dashner. He wrote two series, the first one I read all the books and the second one I am almost done. He wrote alot books so far. His writing helps me keep reading as when you are about to finish a chapter he leaves you on a cliffhanger which makes you want to read more. Since I am very curious I will read his books for an hour straight and still keep on going unlike other books. His books are simple and you are able to keep track on who is talking.

I also happen to love James Dashner. I don't really know why I still love him considering the book "The Death Cure" made me cry and emotionally unstable. There is something about his books that draw me back to him. Either way the iconic page everyone hates in "The Death Cure" is page 250 when Newt, one of my favorite character dies because he had the flare. I have one read the "Maze Runner" series I have not read the "Kill Order" or "The Fever code" mostly because I don't want to get hurt like after reading the last book. I especially love his books because I have never ever had a book make me cry like that and have so many connections with the characters. James Dashner is a monster you can't help but run back to even when you're scared. In a weird sense he makes you love and hate him all at the same time.

As i look at the prompt for this week i can only think of one person to do this on. One of the writers of the Bluford High series, Paul Langan. To me his books draw me in because how realistic they are. The tone he use in his books make it feels as if you are there in the time watching as the plot of the story develops. He makes his writing so that we as readers, mainly teenagers can understand many things that go on in life, and all the things that happen in life that we can sometimes overlook. For example in one of his books called No Way Out, Harold Davis is in a predicament that he never thought he would be in. Since his grandma became gravely ill, he has to turn to drug money in order to pay the hospital bills that began to pile up. Once he got in, there was no way out. This shows that people can only see what is happening on the outside, and don’t know what is happening on the inside.

My favorite author is Suzanne Collins. She wrote the Hunger Games series. Collin’s work make you feel like you are district 12 and you are right alongside Katniss. She also can create a suspense that you can feel. The Hunger Games series has always been my favorite. Collins can describe what is happening as if you could see it yourself. She writes in a way that some other authors can’t do. The suspense she can create also makes her one of the best authors out there. One second Katniss is standing in the arena and the next thing you know she is being attacked. All these things combined makes a great story to be told.

As awful as it sounds, I have never read "The Hunger Games". I've only ever seen the movies. However, I spoke about Veronica Roth's "Divergent" series which is very similar. My favorite author also uses a lot of imagery in her style of writing. I myself am better visually, so images are easier for me to understand something instead of a bunch of words. The simplicity of how you summed up your thoughts was very interesting as well. I might just read "The Hunger Games" now - how about that! Haha

Even though you hate reading Jocelyn you should always read a book before you see the movie! Movies always change certain parts about the book and it's never 100% accurate. Than it's pretty fun to point out the differences between the movie and the book. Than when you read you can decide what the setting is the characters, the plot etc. in your own mind. But in movies it's how the director pictures the plot characters nd setting.

I honestly have never read the "Hunger Games" books, and personally never planned on reading it. (I've always thought that a large amount of people praised it too much.) However, your description of the book series makes it seem so interesting. Not only does it seem like a novel, but also an interactive story. I have only seen the movies, but this makes me want to read the books as well.

One of my favorite book writers are Jeffrey Cranor and Joseph Fink. They’re a pair of writers who have written over 100 episodes of the podcast Welcome to Night Vale as well as three books that are an expansion of of their podcast. The authors have a very strange style heavily influenced by the twilight zone mixed with the strange horrors and wonders of the world. From the book changing perspectives from the point of view of the narrator narrating your own life, looking into other lives, point of view of the faceless old woman who secretly lives in your home, to just simply over hearing the radio. These authors have a great way of keeping the readers or listeners wondering. In the article "Welcome to Night Vale novel sticks too closely to the podcast's rambling format" this journalist discusses because of this jumbled way of storytelling it makes the book hard to read on and follow the main plot. In my opinion, I think it adds to the originality of the story, jumbled and strange. The podcast is know to delve into stories or lives that won't be explained until 30 to 40 episodes later, or in this case further talked about in the book. This book heavily follows the plot and lore of the podcast making it hard for someone who's never heard the podcast to completely grasp the plot. But because of this strange originality these books and podcasts have gained the much deserved popularity leading to live world tours. Jeffery Cranor and Joseph Fink's very strange way of storytelling is one of the most memorable and influence to me.

My author is Rick Riordan. He wrote the Percy Jackson series, the Heroes of Olympus series, and the Trials Of Apollo. These series are mostly about greek and roman mythology. He usually has a lot of action in his books and almost always leaves you on a cliff hanger and make you wanting more and actually makes you enjoy reading. I remember I didn't like reading until I just read his first book Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief and I was totally hooked. I could not and would not put down my book. He seems to know what everyone seemed to love to read because when I was younger I would see a Rick Riordan book everywhere I went. Than I went to the site http://www.ducksters.com/biography/rick_riordan.php and found out to more to Riordan than I already knew. For example he tried to publish his first book at the age of 13 but wasn't successful. However he kept trying and trying and stayed determined and it finally paid off later on. He than used this determination when he told his child the Percy Jackson story on the fly. He than told Riordan to write a book about it and than the popular series and author was written in history.

Well I've never actually read the book but ive seen the movies. But reading what you wrote makes me want to read the book. Funny thing actually the movies also leave you with a cliffhanger. Which is rare that a movie would have a similarity like that. Wow, did you say he published his first book at 13. Thats very impressive. But as you read what gets you hooked on the book?

I love Rick Riordan's books! When I was in elementary and middle school I used to always read the Percy Jackson series. I remember Jadyn told me to read the series, and I was quickly hooked. I was so obsessed that I was thinking about being characters from the series a few years ago for Halloween. I loved the fantasy feeling of his books. My mind was fascinated with the different mythical creatures. I loved reading scenes where Percy would encounter a dangerous monster, but he always won the fight.

James Patterson is one of my favorite Fiction Writers. He writes with a lot of passion and to me it seems like he put himself inside his writing, it's almost like he's there in the action and I just love that. James has won an Edgar Award for Best First Novel by an American Author, Edgar Award for Best First Mystery 1976, and Audie Award for Thriller Suspense 2017 Cross Justice. James Paterson is such a great writer, his stories are so light hearted and make you smile. I love his book "Treasure Hunters". One key part in his books are the amazing hand drawn pictures. The pictures really show and tell the story in another way. I also read "IFunny" in sixth grade, this is one of the books that made me not absolutely hate reading! I never knew he won the Edgar Award for Best First Mystery 1976 that's super cool!

I say absolutely amazing because I could actually connect with the book and it didn't feel like it took for to develop a storyline. But I definitely agree that reading just one of his books makes you want to read more of his work.

My favorite fiction author is John Green. He’s written many books such as The Fault In Our Stars and Paper Towns, which are my favorites of his. His writing is different than most fiction authors, it has a more deep and personal connection. He talks about sensitive subjects, especially in The Fault in Our Stars. He writes in a way that creates a connection between the characters and the readers. When I read The Fault in Our Stars, I felt like I knew the characters. If you read the beginning of the book (https://www.today.com/popculture/read-excerpt-bestseller-today-book-club-pick-fault-our-stars-2D79606828) you instantly know Hazel’s story and as you read the whole book it’s easy to understand. I personally don’t like reading, but when I do I like to read books that have a real meaning and make you feel like you’re part of it. That’s why I like the books John Green has written. Also, I believe his books are way more thorough and meaningful than the movies of them.

I will try to look for John Green if I can but I read about a Author similar to yours. Everything has a purpose especially the minor details. I like his writing style, sort and to the point. I am not a big fan of reading either, but John Greene is definitely one of my go to authors. Like you said, when I read his books, I feel like I have a personal connection and actually know the characters. I love the way he just builds all of this love and romance up and the tears your heart out, it is one of the many reasons I love his works. I have a friend who died of cancer last year, so when I read The Fault in Our Stars, I felt like I actually had a connection with the characters and what they were experiencing. The movies are a good representation of the book, but the books are honestly so much better, thanks to John Greene.

I love John Green, but chose not to write about him simply because everyone else was. One of my favorite books from him is "The Fault In Our Stars" because it is a cute love story that has a gut wrenching turn of events. Augustus Waters is the type of guy I want because he treated Hazel the best he could and even took her on a trip to Amsterdam to meet her favorite author. I never expected for him to get cancer again and die before Hazel. I thought that Hazel would die before Augustus, but that didn't happen. I also love how the movie and book aren't that far apart where as some movies completely don't even follow the book. I watched the "Fault In Our Stars" in 6th grade and I remember falling asleep the first time I watched it, and woke up to my cousin crying her eyes out. I of course rewatched it and cried just as hard as she did. Van Houten is the author of Hazel's favorite book Imperial Affliction. When she went to see him she found out that he's an alcoholic that ends up blowing them off. At Augustus funeral he visits Hazel and finally reveals how he never finished the book because his daughter died and it was about her. He was an alcoholic that actually felt sympathy for someone for the first time in a long time.

My favorite fiction author is Kiera Cass. Kiera Cass has written the Selection Series, which is my favorite book series. She is my favorite author because she makes her books very interesting and detailed. For example, she makes her characters very relatable and very visual. When she just has the character with dialogue, you are able to imagine their expressions and how they are feeling at that moment. Also when they are talking, the tone of the characters make you feel like you are talking right to them. Most of all, Kiera makes the settings very detailed. She makes you feel like you are right there in the moment with the characters. I could only find the summary for the Selection. The Selection is the first book of the Selection Series. That summary includes a description of the main setting in this book. It talks about what the Selection is and what it is about. It also talks about the point of view that the main character has on the Selection. If you are someone that enjoys romantic and adventurous books, I highly recommend this author to you.

I'm probably going to be like the billionth person saying this, but my favorite writer is John Green. He is best known for writing The Fault in Our Stars and Papertowns. The reason he is my favorite writer is because the age of characters in the book since most of his books involve teenagers, so I can relate to the books. Also, I love John Green in the way he writes because when I read books, I love getting emotionally invested into the story. When reading his books, I just love how it makes me drown in tears and let all my feelings out. For example, The Fault in Our Stars has the readers emotionally invested in Augustus and Hazel's relationship. Then the story takes a turn when Augustus becomes more sick and eventually (spoiler alert) dies. This is why many people (including me) love John Greens writing because he can write to relate with readers.

For this Blog I decided to write about an author named Guy Adams, an author who’ve written many mysteries based novels the Sherlock Holmes series, and The Word House. As a story teller Guy Adams uses techniques like using very descriptive words to describe a situation or character to develop the tension between the reader and the event that’s occurring in the book. Guy Adams also uses techniques of giving the readers a very brief description of the situation or the plot of the event in the beginning, but purposefully he takes away the key details of plot intriguing the reader to read the book. Throughout the book Guy Adams doesn’t give fully descriptions about the plot, but he gives enough details to let the readers know what it’s about. This challenges the reader's mind of inference because it gives enough details about the setting, but not enough to let the reader connect everything together like a chain with missing links. These missing links are created by the reader’s inference, intriguing the reader to read more about the book to fine and connect all inferences with the details given by the author leading up to the solution. This is the main reason why I like to read his books because it intrigues me to want to read more to eventually find out the solution of the situation, while also connecting it to my own inferences. In an interview Guy Adams describes his own writing style as “Smart casual” because he thinks that writing isn’t something that can be done in a few days. He believes that it takes time and precision when it comes to writing. Guy Adams also believes that when you’re writing you should write down what comes to your mind at that very second because that’s your very first instinct.

What one issue I have with books is that they aren't intriguing, but Guys Adams makes it intriguing. Giving details makes the reader theorize and they keep on reading to see if their theory is true. This author reminds me of a game called Five Nights at Freddy's. Even though its a game, there is a story behind it all and the creator of the game leaves clues about the story and there are more sequels which makes the person playing the game want to buy it to see the rest of the story. It will make sense if you put the pieces together and then you find the story. Guy Adams believes that it takes time and I think that its because of the quality. The more time it takes, the better the outcome will be because you took the time to see and flaws and fix them instead of rushing and not giving reader the experience that they want from reading their book.

My favorite fiction author is Jenny Han. Jenny Han currently has three different trilogy series including To All the Boys I’ve Loved, Ashes to Ashes, and The Summer Turned Pretty. In all of these plots, the main character has to make heartbreaking decisions and goes through funny/cringy/crazy situations. Usually the plot is a roller-coaster of ups and downs. The main character also usually stands in a fork in the road where one road will lead to one outcome and the other will lead to another. In my favorite book of all times, To All the Boys I've Loved Before, there are letters that Lara Jean wrote to five different boys. She poured heart into those books when she thought she loved those boys. It is cool to see her go back and read those letters, either she laughs at how silly she was or she cries her heart out. Jenny Han made the main characters struggle and work through hard times. Lara Jean -the main character- goes through many struggles from getting her letters sent out, her dad's remarriage, her sister moving , out the new boyfriend, and bullies.

Nobody ever comments on my post so I'm just going to reply to my own. I think Jenny Han is an amazing author too!!! I think that she really takes pride in her race and culture because in most of her books the main character is Asian or there is a significant character in the story line that has Asian background. It's cool to see that authors like seeing part of themselves in there stories too. Although you kind lied by making it seem like you read all of those books, your reasoning behind your favoritism is excellent.

Oh reading! One of my most hated things and the biggest weakness of why I cant complete assignments, because I just hate it. Also the reason why this assignment grade will be lowered because I wont talk about a author ( I don't know any) , Ill just explain the weaknesses of reading. I know I'm not the only person in school who doesn't like reading, I'm actually just one person in a giant sea of people who don't like it. Reading is just a love that is slowly adapted and integrated into some ( a small minority) of people. Don't get me wrong, reading is a great thing, we obtain knowledge and pull confidence or portray traits from a certain character but there are bad sides. One of these reasons, from https://www.ebscohost.com/novelist/novelist-special/on-the-dangers-of-reading, state that, "These are the readers who come to the library hoping to find books that will heal them. These readers' perception may be altered, and books that would otherwise provide comfort may exacerbate their feelings of sadness, anger, or hopelessness." This quote means that people attach and then rely on books to comfort them, blocking out the outside world such as people. Humans are based around communication, its something we direly need to survive, without it you'll go insane. Another reason comes from me, reading is something I didn't like when young, I was always interested in other forms of knowledge like watching the Science channel, a lot ( I still do). Though weak, I still think writing this was a lot more fun than "reading" books. In the end doing this my way was worth losing points.

My favorite fiction books are by Gary Paulsen. I like his books "The Hatchet," "The River," "Brian's Hunt," and "Brian's Winter." I like these books because they possess a survival in the wilderness subject, which I tend to enjoy. As the article states, Gary Paulsen tends to use an unedited order of sentences, making it feel like you are reading Brian's thoughts off of the page. He uses elements of hearing, feeling, and tasting in order to provide a detailed description of what is happening. He uses detail, but no unnecessary details. It is enough for the reader to begin to picture an outline of the scene that is laid out before them. I enjoy how he uses the third person, yet you feel like you are still having every detail that Brian thought about. His writing is more like thoughts than telling a story. It is not rearranged into a different order. It is put together in a way that you feel like you are reading the event as it is happening, and hearing all the thoughts. https://www.shmoop.com/hatchet-paulsen/writing-style.html

Being someone who reads a lot I couldn’t narrow it down to one so I did two, Veronica Roth and John Green. I’ll start with Veronica, the author of the Divergent series, I like her character development skills and how she developed the character over the three books in the series. The ending, even though it wasn’t my favorite, stayed true to the character rather it be a happy ending that the fans would find more attractive and I really applaud her for that. Me also being a big dystopian fan, also liked her take on a dystopian world. Now on to John…he keeps it very real in his books. He, along with Veronica, didn’t give fan what they wanted in the end an in both cases its vital to the plot line. John switches up from the normal “everything will work out in the end” love story and twisted it into an epic love story that emphasizes the time one has to love and also the fact that death is inevitable in his book ‘The Fault in Our Stars’. He keeps a very realistic tone in his books and that’s a very good trait for an author to have even if it does make someone mad in the end. The article addresses John Greens Novel ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ in further detail. It’s a good article because of its visual aids to the topic and it also reviews more misunderstood parts of the book.

Character devoplment is very important to a good book in my opinion. I hate when the main characters are boring and annoying and never learns from their mistakes. It really sucks when you force yourself to read a book with a crappy main character who is severely underdeveloped. I've heard a lot about the Fault in Our Stars, I know its a fan favorite among readers but I'm not interested in love stories that much. I've always wondered what that book is actually about and why everyone loves it, maybe I'll watch the movie or something just to know what its about.

Mikayla I fell so connected to you right now as I couldn't decide in which author to chose. Plus I love the divergent series, well the movies I have never read the books as I have to read 3 books right now to read. Those books are Watch the sky by Kirsten Hubbard, Finders Keepers by Stephen King, and Code of Honor by Alan Gratz. Going back to the connection the authors I was debating about where Alan Gratz and Ursula Vernon. This two author have really made me who I am today even do I might not remember there names if you ask me about them. Alan Gratz like john keep the books realistic. So I really enjoy learning that you and I had a connection.

My favorite writer is Rick Riordan who has written my favorite series "Percy Jackson and the Olympians". His book are able to take you into a world like no other. By using incredible detail Rick makes it easy to understand what is going on in his stories. I love how Rick is able to develop his stories. His stories are long but he doesn't take away from the plot by adding fillers. The events in Ricks stories are all crucial to the plot so the reader doesn't feel like he/she is wasting his/hers time. Another thing that makes Ricks stories amazing is his imagination. Even thought rick is a grown man he still has a kid like imagination full of wonder and curiosity. Rick inspires me to be a writer I want to be a able to make people wonder and laugh like Rick does someday. Another thing that makes Rick a good writer is that his stories are interesting; nothing he writes is ever boring. Last but not least my favorite thing about Rick Riordan is that his books are crazy and terrifying but they are also relatable. Its easy for teenagers like myself to get connected or attached to his characters. Pick up a Rick Riordan book, adventure awaits you Mrs. Wright!!!!!

Rick Riordan is a really good writer. The Percy Jackson series was great. Rick Riordan's writing is sharp, vibrant, and comprehensive. His writing allows the reader to understand and visualize everything occurring in Percy's life. Furthermore, he differentiates characters from one another by giving them each their own dialect. He also compresses dialogue to make it sound more realistic. His books are climactic too.

I've heard a lot about the Percy Jackson series but I never had the time to sit down and actually read it. I really enjoy when authors go into more detail in their stories because then it allows the mind to picture the story more clearly. I sometimes find that fillers in stories bore me and make me lose interest in the book, barely even do I actually find a enjoyable filler. Always having people trying to convince me to read this series I never give in because I just don't like reading mainstream books. I might actually give this series a try though, it sounds enjoyable.

OMG, you want to be a writer two connections so many connections today. Well lets get to the point of the comment right okay. Jude I see Percy is a famous person cause you and will both wrote about it. Another thing is that you told people to read the book you were honest about this book you were honest about your feeling towards this book. I'm proud of you cause many people don't do this like you did my friend. If you couldn't notice I was trying to use my imagination and write a fun and old school friendly comment. I’m sure someone else probably did a blog post about the writer but my favorite author is John Green. He was written many popular books that are great. He’s written 1 of my favorite books The Fault in Our Stars. His writing can make readers be able to connect to events and characters. He has a way of writing that makes you emotionally unstable. Like I’m sure I cried my first time reading the book. John gave legit views on death and many other things that make it seem real. He is a beautiful writer. His reason for writing The Fault in Our Stars is on this website.... http://literaryanalisis504m.weebly.com/authors-purpose.html

The author i picked for this is Scott Westerfeld, who wrote Uglies, and the whole series that followed. I read this book last year in ela, and i found it quite symbolic and relate-able. Although i still haven't gotten to read the rest of the series, I was really impressed by how good at creating pictures the author was. This book is set in the future, and obviously is fiction, so it has a lot of fictional original things in it, that we don't actually have today. Being able to give your readers a clear, defined picture of settings, characters and objects is a very important part of a book, that many authors can't do. I remember that in the book there is this part where the main character, Tally, runs away to this camp out in the wilderness, and it's been secluded away from society, so it isn't very high tech. So as you can imagine, the people there have to do every thing themselves, from hunting, to building, to watching for threats. The author gave an extremely good picture of this, because he made sure to include the way the place smelled, how the people interacted with one another, and all sorts of important details. Part of this is how he references objects that we do have today in his descriptions of things. I don't remember exactly how/what he said about railroads, but for example there's a part where he talks about how hover boards run along a small metal track in the ground, and after a while, the reader gets the hint that it's a railroad track. All in all, i just found it really interesting how he could create such a clear picture of something that i had never seen.

I also like the books that Scott Westerfeld had written, especially the “Uglies” series. I had also read the book “Uglies” last year in ELA and it was very interesting, so I continued to read the rest of the series. Matter of fact, the book is also somewhat related to our old unit of identity of mostly physical appearance. I also like how Scott Westerfeld used very descriptive words to create an image of the future in the book because it’s hard to describe something that doesn’t even exist. For example, in the book it talks about flying hover boards with abilities like airplanes. Although hover boards are in today’s world, but it’s hard to describe a flying hover board with abilities like an airplane when nothing like that has been invented or seen. I actually like the whole series because it was interesting to see Tally change from an “ugly” to someone else.

I dont have one specific author that I enjoy the most, but multiple authors whom’s books I like. As a child I really enjoyed reading the “Geronimo Stilton” books by Elisabetta Dami. I really loved how she would take a basic word and turn it into a picture. For instance if the word was “fly” it could have wings that in a way make the word fly right off the page. In every sing book Geronimo would find himself(a newspaper writer) in these “fabumouse”adventures(if you read the books you would understand). What I really loved about those books was while you were reading them, it was like you were actually in Geronimo’s world, living in New Mouse City. One of my favorite books by this author is the very first one in the Geronimo Stilton Series(there are multiple series). Before this assignment I didn’t know anything about this author, I just knew I loved the books. Most of the information I found about her is in the links below. Elisabetta also had a series called “Thea Stilton” that was about these five girls who went on adventures aswell. I know it seems a bit child like for me to do my blog post on a childrens series, but these books were a very important part of my childhood and I hope you look into them.

Same!!! As a kid i loved to read his books. Still today if i can get my hands on a Geronimo Stilton or Thea Stilton book i will take the chance and read it. His "fabumouse" adventures would always had this impact on me when i was younger, bringing me to find myself going to the library to get another one of his books. If you are looking to find a good book that you would have read in elementary school, Geronimo Stilton is the one. (Although Junie B. Jones is really close behind.)

I am assuming that the author that I have chosen is not very known by others, however his ideas have become one of the most recognized films. I am talking about Winston Groom, the creator of "Forrest Gump." "Forrest Gump" is one of my few favorite films, but that is beside the point. In his two books, "Forrest Gump" and "Gump and Co." (the sequel) he creates this sort of new way of narration. Instead of having the book narrate what's going on from the point of view of Forrest, he talks about it in the way that you would expect the character to speak. When I read the book, I personally thought that it was sort of strange at first, but throughout the book, I realized that it was somewhat like character development. It makes you feel as if the character is talking to you. This quote from the book shows how Forrest narrates his story in "Gump and Co.", and it doesn't really include much dialogue in this part. "Little Forrest is of course long asleep in the bedroom time I get through with all that, an Mrs. Curran ast me what is goin on? I tole her I am quittin the encyclopedia bidness to go up to Atlanta an help Alfred make his new CokeCola, an that I figger I got to do this, account of it is a lot of money involved an we need to fix up little Forrest with some backup income." It doesn't change much of the text, but when you read it, it gives it that little bit of detail that goes a long way. You can see an obvious difference on how everyone in the book talks, versus how Forrest thinks and speaks which I think makes it so much better. When I read it, I thought that it was sort of like a second movie. (Although that was supposed to be a real thing...)

Forrest Gump is also one of my favorite movies too! I have never read the book though, but it sounds interesting. This is the cool thing about books and movies. The movie can be so much different than the book which makes me very confused. Now I want to read the book to see the differences. So, thank you Gavin!

I can agree with you on the attention to small details, because they really make the reader immersed more into what they're reading, as well as keep them interested in the story. Small details can really make the difference between a book that makes you want to fall asleep and a book that makes you want to make it to the end.

My favorite fiction author is John Green. John Green has written a lot of good books. My favorite books by him are The Fault in our Stars, Looking for Alaska, Paper Towns, and An abundance Of Katherines. I personally like the way he comes at the readers with facts and the truth. His characters he develops have true life problems that anyone can relate to. I know I'm only supposed to talk about one book in particular but I'll talk about all three. In The Fault In our Stars, Hazel and Agustus meet in a cancer support group. They fall in love, eventually he dies. Some people can say they've had cancer. Lost a love one to cancer. Or they could say they've been in love. In Looking For Alaska the main character is a nerd who's never really experienced life. Then he goes to college, meets some friends, done some wrong but fun enjoying things. He too fell in love with a girl, she killed herself. The same thing I said earlier , but some people can relate to suicide. Recently a girl killed herself over the weekend, she went to Parkside. So many people were impacted. I can relate myself to that situation in the book. In Paper Towns, the main character has one awesome night with this girl and then the next day she disappears. He searches everywhere for her and eventually finds her. Some people can say that they've searched so hard to find something and it took a long, hard journey, but the end of it was a good result.

Those are also my favorite books by him also! I like 'The Fault in Our Stars' and 'An Of Katherine's'. I read both of them around last year-2 years ago. Like you said, all his books have great plots. He writes his stories so people in a way that readers can relate, even if there not going through the same thing. With what you were saying about how his books include life problems, he writes about things like love, disease etc., John writes about things that people of our age enjoy reading about.

One of my favorite authors is Ransom Riggs, the author of the Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children. I like his writing because he has a interesting story line that creeps you out yet you still want more. The only book series he has done is the Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children series. His story is about World War 2 children (Jews) who all have special powers they try to hide. For example Miss Peregrine can turn to the peregrine bird. During this time a bomb is dropped on the house and the kids are stuck in a loop where they live the same day over and over again. Jacob however lives in the future and finds the loop because of a letter left behind by his grandfather. Ransoms writing has two different time periods in one and a love story between two people from another time. I also really love the authors character developments in this because the children with ability's deal with living the same day over and over until they meet Jacob and everything changes. Jacob also deals with the passing of his grandfather who's death was caused by a hologast (monster) that haunted him, but everyone thought Jacob was crazy. The monster scared him so bad he had to sleep in a room with no windows. Ransom likes to tell story's not just by writing them, but in photographs too which is another thing he enjoys.

My favorite fictional author is Veronica Roth. She is most reknown for her book series called “Divergent”. These books are about a girl named Beatrice and how she copes with being different from her family and her struggle with being “divergent” this meaning that she isn’t just made up of one faction (ex. She’s brave, selfless, intelligent, honest, and peaceful all at the same time, so she isn’t just selfless, brave, etc). Veronica Roth wrote her story in a first person point-of-view where everything is written from Tris, the main character’s, mindset. This gives us, the readers, a way to see how she is thinking, acting, and interacting. Roth’s style was to “...create the circumstances in which that voice emerged, and then see what she (Tris) could tell me (Veronica Roth) about what was happening in her world”. Her style of writing consists of cliff hangers, interesting plot twists, new encounters, and many other different pieces that helps shape the book “Divergent” and its sequels. Because of this, I fell in love with her writing. One plot twist that most people didn’t expect was the faction chosen by Tris. Instead of following her parents and living life with her family, Tris decides to go the dangerous route and joins Dauntless, an unruly group of brave warriors. More information of about the origin of this author and her writing can be found in the link below:

Veronica Roth is one of my favorite authors as well! The Divergent series is one of my favorites, even though the movies are not as good as the books. When I read her work, I feel as if I am actually right there witnessing what is going on, which is something not a lot of authors can give you. I love the way she develops the characters over time, and you either learn to love them or hate them. I feel as if the writing she does is somewhat relatable even though it is set in a dystopian setting. It can't happen, not any time soon anyway, which is why I really love getting the opportunity to feel what the characters go through and feel as they live in this setting. Anywho, great job this week, keep up the good work!

I also like Veronica Roth. The only books of hers that I have read, however, have been the divergent series. I enjoyed the way that they were written because like you said, they were in the first person point of view. When reading these books, you were able to understand what Tris was doing and how she felt. Just like you said, I didn't expect for Tris to go against her family and join another group. This was one of the many parts in her books that made me enjoy Veronica Roth's writing.

My all time favorite author is J.K. Rowling. She wrote my favorite series which is Harry Potter. Rowling’s writing style is so unique and powerful that books she wrote almost three decades ago are still very popular today. There is always some kind of action going on whether it’s death or a fight or something has been discovered. It is also very extraordinary that she has 8 books in the series and each one is amazing. There is never a dull moment in her books and that’s what’s amazing about her.

I once tried to read the Harry Potter series but after a while i just stopped. I guess i wasn’t on a part where there was action. Action makes a novel great. Like Suzanne Collins, the book is filled with action and it makes me think just how much effort J.K. Rowling puts into this book series. And maybe if i have the time I’ll try to read the series. :)

I decided to write about Charles Dickens. He was a remarkable writer in his time. He wrote "A Christmas Carol," "Oliver Twist," "A Tale of Two Cities," and etc. Dickens excelled at manipulating language. His use of dialect allowed for the scenes to come alive, and was a notable part of his style. In "A Tale of Two Cities" Dickens wrote, "Deep ditches, double drawbridge, massive stone walls, eight great towers, cannon, muskets, fire and smoke. Through the fire and through the smoke—in the fire and in the smoke, for the sea cast him up against a cannon, and on the instant he became a cannonier." He used short phrases to emphasize the movement taking place in the scene. He uses repetition to highlight the way the fire and smoke seem to engulf the world. The detail he uses accentuates and improves his writing.

I also like Charles Dickens. My favorite of his writings was, "A Christmas Carol." I liked this because just like you said, Charles Dickens' use of dialect really helped his scenes stand out. With my experiences, a lot of people know who Dickens is but they do not understand his writing style. I personally love his writing style and I think that is what makes his works so unique.

The author that I chose to write about is J. K. Rowling. I chose to write about her because I love her books and the way she writes them. J. K. Rowling goes beyond simplicity and reaches into the depths of imagination. A good example of this is the Harry Potter series. When writing these books, Rowling made up a lot of words that she felt added meaning to the text. Another reason why I like the style of the Harry Potter books is because they are written in a third person point of view. I like reading books that are written in this view because it shows you everything that is going on in the text and how the characters feel. The article http://www.litu.tu.ac.th/journal/FLLTCP/Proceeding/506.pdf also helped me a lot with figuring out even more about how her writing style is unique. J. K. Rowling has developed her own way of giving a sentence structure. She uses punctuation and verbs that make her sentences stand out. All of these reasons are why I love the books that J. K. Rowling has written, but what I like most about her books is that she uses her imagination to make her writing the way it is.

I am also very fond of J.K. Rowling, I thought the Harry Potter series was absolutely amazing. You were right- the way she manages to reach into the depths of imagination is astonishing and the way she uses punctuation and verbs does highlight her writing. She is spectacular at creating complex, intriguing characters and worlds. She managed to create characters with whom you can sympathize (such as Harry Potter or Luna Lovegood) or revile (Voldemort) — or, perhaps, both. The magical world she created was meticulously thought out. Moreover, J.K. Rowling incorporates humor, mystery, and suspense. I am sorry, but I could go on about J.K Rowling for days, she is truly awe-inspiring.

I also like to read books written by J.K. Rowling with her unique writing style! I also like how J.K. Rowling uses the style of using words to create an image in the reader’s head because it’s not easy to create a setting that can be formed in the reader’s head. To do this she must use very descriptive words that allows the reader to form the setting or a picture in their head. If she uses a wrong adjective to describe the setting or character it could lead the reader in the wrong direction of forming their imagination which can make the rest of the story confusing. I also like to read Harry Potter books because they are written in a third person view that gives me everything I need to know about the character or setting. When I was doing this blog I also thought about doing J.K. Rowling because I also like her writing style.

I really like when books are written in third person as well, because like you said you know exactly what's going on. Sometimes in a book there's a part that's confusing or you get confused by the dialogue, but if it's written in third person, it's easier to understand because you can see how everything happens. Third peeson also helps clarify dates/times, sometimes authors will write in first person and pay less attention to dates, but I feel when it's written in third, dates get payed more attention to.

When i first saw this blog question i thought lets choose Alan Gratz as he wrote prisoner b-3087 and projekt 1065 ,but i decided to go with Jeff Kinney. The reason i did this change is as I been reading his books since I was 7 years old and h they were my favorites. When I first got to the US I could only read in English not speak it so all I could do was read books. This is when I found out about diary of a wimpy kid. Jeff Kinney writes his book in first person view witch helps with his other tactic which is to make things relatable with his main character. For example Greg from diary of a wimpy kid hates his 2 brothers, but still dose anything for them. Another good is example is how the mom is the head of the house and the dad is just the dad. I really like this still as it helps to predict what is gone happen in the future of the book. If you want some tips for writing you should go to http://www.kzone.com.au/article/entertainment-books-writing-tips-with-jeff-kinney-diary-of-a-wimpy-kid .

Well normaly i dont read alot of fictional books so this assignment was a little hard for me at first but then the book "Nineteen mintues" by Jodi Picoult. When i first saw this book i thought it would be boring but then i actually got to reading. On the first page of the story she begans explaining the title. She says "In nineteen minutes you can mow the lawn;color your hair; watch a third of a hockey game.." Then after that first paragraph she says "In nineteen mintues you can get revenge." Later on in my book i find out that the book is based on school shootings. To me the question why would an author create a story about a school shooting? Then the thought of the author actually caring about what she writes even if it is just a little simple subject pops into my head. And i feel this way because the author could have no connection at all to what She writes but once she begans she study the topic it becomes important to her. Her writing is not the same as other authors because as i read its like she gives her all abd in some ways i can began to connect to the text and i fall in love with it. And when you are creating something your audience should be able to connect to it. But in order for you to know what i mean i recommend anyone whose interested ib books or looking for books to read a book by her.

I for one, am not the kind of person you would find reading a book in my free time, but when I do, I try to read books that were written by Katie Alender. My favorite book that she has written was Famous Last Words, and I have read it about six times. I love the way she describes the characters and what they go through. The plot is mainly about how a girl moves to Los Angeles after her father died, and there is a ghost haunting her new stepfather's mansion. She talks about how Willa (the main character) goes through life at a new high school, and how she falls in love. I love her writing because it is pretty relatable, except for the ghosts part of course. This quote really stuck out to me, because I am pretty sure almost all teens everywhere can relate. "Maybe it's human nature to be drawn to the things that hurt us most." She builds the characters in a way where you either love them as soon as you hear about them, or you hate them at first but the more you read and the farther you get, the more you learn to love the characters. There are so many genres included in the book, it's crazy: suspense, thriller, fiction, paranormal, urban fiction, romance, and so many more. The way she builds the plot, is just amazing. The ending surprises me every time I read it, and the details that she includes really builds up the realism of the book. Another one of my favorite series is Pretty Little Liars, and this book reminds me so much of that series. If you are into the paranormal, suspenseful, romantic type of book, you should definitely check this one out, or any by Katie Alender really.
