It is a universal truth or lesson the author intends for the audience to glean from the text. For example, "love" isn't a theme. "Love conquers all," is. Include a link to the full text of the poem or song lyrics, or find a school appropriate video in which the piece is performed. Discuss the theme of the piece and how it relates to the sphere in the identity web. Chose at least one line/stanza that helps develop that theme to analyze in depth. Explain it's significance in building on the theme and what it means to you.

I chose the song “For Good” from “Wicked.” The song touches on the theme that every relationship changes who you are, or how you’re seen. The line that comes to mind when I think of this song is, “because I knew you, I have been changed for good.” The line means that everyone you meet will impact who you are in some way. In this situation, it changed both people positively. Another line I think of is, “and just look at you, you can do all I couldn’t do,” I think this line shows that we need people to help us, whether it be mentally, emotionally, or literally help with a task. Even though this song is towards the end of the show, it has a big impact on it, because in the beginning of the show the two main characters hated each other, but by the end they’re singing this song about this they couldn’t have gotten through this time in their life without the other. There’s a line that I relate to, “I ask forgiveness for the things I’ve done you blamed me for,” Annie and I used to hate each other, but now she’s one of my closest friends, so this song kind of reminds me of how we are, like hating each to best friends. It obviously relates to the relationships/family sphere of the identity web. The lesson of the song is that everyone you meet will impact your life.

Yes, it’s true that we weren’t really big fans of each other in the beginning. But, this song can show that people can change for the better because of each other. I too really love this song because if I get in an argument with a friend, I listen to the song and know that that person has been with me a long time and to forgive them.

Why did I know you were going to do a Broadway song? None the less it is a good song and I really like the lines you choose. Broadway in general has deeper meaning that you really have to look for. Even thought it is telling a story the story does have other morals and life lessons imbedded. I respect you for finding those morals and really enjoying them and finding confidence in them.

The song that I chose for this post was, “I Will Follow You into the Dark” by Death Cab for Cutie. I think that it is related to the Values and Beliefs part of the Identity Web. To me, the song is about a person who loves their significant other so much that they would do anything for them, even if he must follow her into death. It is personally my favorite song, and I don’t plan on changing my opinion any time soon. The part of the song that ties the entire thing with this theme is the chorus, which is:

My dad too really loves this band (trust me he listens to it non-stop in his truck.) When you talked about valuing the time we have with loved ones, it made me think of your “This I Believe” presentation. Everyone should be with who they love until the very end and care for them. No one can decide who we love, it is all up to us. We all have to make our own decisions with no one else deciding it.

I have never heard of this band or have ever heard you talk about them. The song you have chosen is an interesting one, especially since its a different type of music that I don't listen to. The theme of how a man is willingly able to do anything at the risk of his woman is a thing that I don't understand. My reasoning is that dying isn't something I would do for love because 1, it might hurt a lot and 2, you cant love if you`re dead. The memo I'm getting here is that this is an expression, not a literal statement. Unless you`re extremely desperate which signifies being too desperate, something that no one should resort to. But I liked how you explained the quote in the last paragraph, especially that last sentence, just wow.

The song I chose is “Black Spiderman” by Logic. The theme of the song is that everyone should be equal and love each other and not be judged by their race, religion, sexual orientation, and etc. Logic is a very inspirational artist that has made many songs that’s have made impacts on many people’s lives. This song goes under many of the sections of the identity web. It could go under Race/Ethnicity/Cultural Heritage, gender orientation, and beliefs and values. My favorite line that he says is “Not perceived by the things I believe or the color of my skin

Okay so as im reading over what you said i decided to go on youtube and listening to the song. The song is so powerful and i love it. I had kept hitting the repeat button to listen to it. Agree with the theme you came up with fpr this song because that's exactly what its talking about. The song doesnt just target one issue and stereotypes of one race ,gender, or religion but basically a variety of those. And i love that. I Like the message and lyrics tp this song. Its so awesome.

Prior to reading your blog post I had only heard the name "Logic" maybe once(and it was from another persons blog post). But , you might have just made me a fan of his music. After listening to the song I looked for more songs by Logic and I felt like I was sinking into my seat (THAT'S HOW DEEP THIS DUDES SONGS ARE). Anyway back into sophisticated writing mode: this songs connected with me in more ways than one. It spoke about several topics that people need to open up and talk about but are afraid they'll be outcast-ed for doing so. Something that I have noticed about a few of these posts is people are listening to music that is uncovering some topics that have been dug dug so deep we've forgotten about them. I hope Logic's movement will make a positive difference in our world

This song is one of my favorites. I love the meanings of Logic's songs. "Black Spider-Man" is my favorite song by him. The meaning of it is very important in today's racist society. I think everyone should listen to this song, and take in the meaning that the artist intended to be heard.

Logic is one of my favorite artists and I love most of his songs. I love that he doesn't judge people by their looks, gender, or race. He respects all even if you are Black, White, bisexual, Asian, Hispanic, or etc. I feel that almost all his songs have an important message and the song "Spider-Man" has a very important message that goes out to all and show you Logics beliefs and values. Like you said I think logic is an inspirational artist and I love that he's made a difference around the world.

One song that means a lot to me is "Only Us" from Dear Evan Hansen, which has a theme of, "Love can conquer if you can try to make it work," and has the identity web part of relationships. In this song, the characters Evan and Zoe sing about how they shouldn't have to worry of what others think of their relationship as long as they have each other. This song really means a lot to me because all of my life, I have seen fantasy romances in princess movies and TV shows. Listening to this song, it makes me think that one day, I can have a fantasy romance like the characters in the song (even though their whole relationship was based on LIES, if you know the plot.) A lyric in the song says, "But if you really see me, if you like me for me and nothing else, that's all that I've wanted for longer than you could possibly know." This means a lot to me because if you are in love with someone, you should love that person for who they are and not just to be in a relationship. I have a link to a performance on the Today Show of this song, so you should check it out!

A song that can really relate to an identity sphere is, “Scars to Your Beautiful,” by Alessia Cara. In the song, she explains how what is on the outside doesn’t matter but what does matter is what is on the inside. Nobody is perfect, even though some appear to be, but who we are is not defined by what we look like. Our identity is about who we are on the inside, and how we chose to live our lives. This song relates to physical appearance and beliefs and values. One line from this song that really spoke to me was, “Or that beauty goes deeper than the surface.” This expresses how: yes, your physical appearance may play in a role in who you are, but it doesn’t define who you are. I have never been super confident in myself, and this song really helped me change my opinion about myself. It helped me to realize that everybody is unique in their own way and that is what makes them special and magnificent. No two people are alike, which means that there are 7 billion different kinds of beautiful, which is amazing to me.

Omg! I love that song. And you right about your physical apperance doesnt define who you are. Reading what you put sounds so self empowering.I agree with you when you say "our identity is who are on the inside and how we choose to live our lives." It seems like this song has inspired you to create what you believe is identity. I like how you explained the role of this song it played on you.

I love your blog post because it talks about something people try to fake. People say that whats important is on the inside and looks don't matter but will turn around and be ready to call somebody ugly. Or, be ready to make fun of something that person physically has no control over. I feel as if seeing whats on the inside is something that should be practiced not just pretended and I love the fact that you chose a song that emphasizes that. Another line of this song that I love is "You don't have to change a thing, the world can change it's heart." This means don't think that you have to change anything about yourself to fit in the box of "normal" instead be confident in your differences. If the world doesn't accept you then that's their problem.

Haha you and I picked the same song! This song has a huge message that not a lot of people focus on. Looks aren’t everything. People need to look deeper then the skin and focus on personalities and other things. People tend to judge on looks before anything else and it’s a big problem.

I have listened to this song multiple times. The message she is trying to convey is really important in today's world. Not a lot of people realize that outside appearances are not everything. Our physical appearance is not the only thing that sculpts us- we are much, much more. The theme in this song relates to my post about the poem, Blonde, because both focus on how our characteristics do not define us.

So i read a poem about identity because I couldn't find a song. The poem actually taught me something and it is also the theme. You are perfect just the way you are. This is actually true because no matter what you look, society will always judge you. This poem talks about physical appearance which is a part of the identity web. This honestly became the best poem I ever read because the other poems are either boring or not that interesting at all. This also taught me that your physical doesn't define who you are as a person. Your personality does because it describe who you are and everything else. People judge you no matter what you look like. Just be who you are and what makes you happy as there will be some people on your side.

It shows her being bullied and students say stuff like you should wear a dress and make up. She then decided to do it and the next thing the students say was that she cared too much about her physical appearance. She then learned to be herself no matter what society says. I honestly don't care what anyone says about me. I just be myself.

I like how you did something other than a song and went to a poem! This is different and original and I love the line "You are perfect just as you are,so continue to stay strong, remember no matter what they tell you, what society says is wrong." Some people haven't really excepted who they are and they are perfect in god's eyes and we should see this too. I like how you say who the poem was written by and what was in it. Great job picking a poem that says you should be true to your personality and don't change it no matter what others say.

The song I have chosen is Titanium by David Guetta (featuring Sia). I have chosen this song because it is one of my favorite songs and it teaches me when you get knocked down you get back up. Than if you get knocked down 99 times you get back up 100 times more. The theme that I get from this song is "be strong even when the world is throwing its worst at you", because if you listen to listen to the song (which I recommend if you haven't already) Sia sings "Shoot me down but I won't fall." This shows you will always will have inner strength even when you think you don't and you can always get back up when are feeling down. These lyrics from https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/davidguetta/titanium.html. But than I read the lyrics as the song was going and it totally changed my thinking of the song. I was truly listening to the song and breaking it down to its true meaning beneath the surface of the lyrics. I went from thinking the song was about surviving to finding inner strength and using that to get back up. This song also got me through not so good times and will probably help a lot more in the future now that I know the true meaning to me. I hope you guys see this song the way I do and agree with me.

Titanium is definitely a true inspirational piece. I've found that Sia has some very interesting songs all with differing, yet incredibly important meanings. Being strong is something that we should all be able to do. This world is nasty and cruel. Not everyone has the decency to be kind and understanding. Things happen that we don't want nor expect. Our thoughts are almost the same but building off of yours I believe the song "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" by Kelly Clarkson is also in close relations with "Titanium". "Stronger" speaks about how even through the darkest times you can't fall, but you need to keep pressing on. The song, says "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger stand a little taller doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone..." This indicates that even when you feel alone and low, you are never alone. It's so cool that these songs are so similar in themes! Nice work :)

I really like what your song was about, and what it meant to you. Although I personally am not a big fan of the song, it's good to listen to songs with positive messages. I like how instead of searching up the meaning of the song, you were listening to the song and breaking down what the lyrics meant. I do the same thing, and I believe that a song has a different meaning to everyone, because many of us have personal experiences that we are reminded of when we listen to a song. That is what I think makes music so special. Your song may have a meaning that is somewhat easy to see, but it's how each person interprets music to know their meaning. You said that the song helped you through a rough part of your life, and that is what makes it important to you.

When I heard about the assignment I knew exactly what poem I was going to use and that poem is one of Maya Angelou’s most famous poems “Still I Rise”. This poem caught my attention from the moment I read about it in fifth grade and it caught my attention because I personally have experienced people using racist phrases or words. And it speaks about Maya and myriads of other people being racially slandered or just excluded based on what they could do and what race they are. I think this poem connects most with the beliefs and values part of identity because the main theme of “Still I Rise” is that no matter what happens or what is thrown at Maya Angelou, she will always rise. The theme of "Still I Rise" is really about self-respect, and confidence. In the poem, she reveals how she will overcome anything with her self-esteem. She shows how nothing can get her down. The two main stanzas of the poem that I like the most and that help elaborate on the theme is when Maya Angelou said, “You may write me down in history. With your bitter, twisted lies, you may tread me in the very dirt but still, like dust, I'll rise.” And the other is “Out of the huts of history's shame, I rise. Up from a past that's rooted in pain, I rise. I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide, welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

It was very difficult for me to find a song that had even an ounce of something to do with identity. I automatically started searching things such as “songs about belief” and “songs about talents” but was led nowhere. So, then I decided to start looking for songs by some of my favorite artists to see if they had any valid songs but ended up just screaming the lyrics of my favorite verses. By this point I had ended up forgetting the reason I was even listening to music. Then, all of a sudden, in the recommended videos section, there was a song by Beyoncé. As if angels had started singing, I knew that would be the song I would write about without even listening to it yet. After clicking the song, I realized what it was and wondered why I hadn’t just chosen this one in the first place. So, without further ado, my blog post!

Again here you go with such inspirational thoughts! It is so incredible to see that not only everyone has fears and goals, but people have similar goals and fears as myself. It is very unsettling for myself to try to figure out what it were to be like if I don't try to better change this world. Our generation is not prepared to carry the weight of authority and power. Just like the theme you mentioned, "I Will Make a Difference". I want to also change this world for the better because I don't want to be a part of a mislead society. Loved your work. Once again, IT WAS NOT TRASH :)

I’ve never heard this song but I’ll have to listen to it ! When you said, “Not because I am scared of death but because I haven’t made my mark on this world yet.” I really related to that because I’ll sometimes think like, if I died right now, would I be happy with the way I lived, or would I regret not doing something to help someone. I like how you connected the theme do defining moments. I probably would have put it under talents. I would have chosen that one because you said you wanted to positively impact the world, and I think it takes a special type of talent to be able to connect and help others. But it was interesting to see what you chose.

I listened to this song a lot last year in choir. It has a great theme and message. Everyone should want to do something to better other people or the world. One poem that I chose is "When Death Comes." I believe the theme for this poem is make the most of your life. The one line that was powerful and gave the theme is when the narrator said, "I don’t want to end up simply having visited this world." The narrator is saying that she wants to make the most of the world and fully experience life. She is saying to make the most of life before it all ends. She wants to think that she has made something of her life before everything ends. This goes into the category Beliefs and values because her values are to make the most of her life. From reading this poem I felt like I didn't do much with my life so far. I felt like I should do more than what I have done so far to make the most of my life.

Although I’ve never read this poem, but I still agree with the author who basically says to make the most out of one’s life. This actually reminds me of one of my family member who died in China when I was in America at the age of 8. When ever when I was around her she would always talk about doing that and doing this which once annoyed me, so I had always tried to avoid talking to her. Now since she’s gone I’ve regretted my doings because now even if I wanted to spend time with her I wouldn’t have the chance to again. After she died I didn’t even have the chance to attend her funeral because to my parents school was the most important at that time, making it a huge regret for me today. I can relate to you by also thinking that I should make the most of my life before I have any regrets because I haven’t really done much with my life so far either.

Wow, Love it this poem! The whole poem is relatable and I feel everyone should think this way. In life you only live so long and you shouldn't let people or anything else get in the way of you living the best life you can have. I believe that people who mess up your life you should forget about because you only have one life and you should live it up. I really love the line "I don't want to end up simply having visited the world" that quote shows how you should do what you can and to have no regrets.

Same! I feel like my life hasn't had any real meaning to it lately, like i'm not out here doing the most i can. I always dwell on the past too much and it's not a good habit because it makes life fly right past you and before you know it, your'e falling behind and getting lost. I can relate to not wanting to "just visit" because i find myself every now and then feeling like i'm going to end up just existing and not living. In fact i'd go as far to say that just existing without any real meaning is one of my greatest paranoias. I feel like way, way, way too many people just breeze through life without realizing how short it is. I think feeling like you need to make something out of your life should be experienced by everyone at least once to drive them to strive for the best.

The song I choose is ‘Dumb’ by Todrick hall, this song is about how society prioritizes the wrong things. The music video shows him dressed as a scare crow (the scarecrow from the movie) rapping about the things he finds wrong not only does it hit on problems he faces but also the problems of society. This song comes from his musical ‘Straight Out of Oz’ which is a whole musical dedicated to his life story. The whole musical is dedicated to ‘The Wizard of Oz’, so all the lyrics/videos have to do with concepts discussed in the movie. The lyric that stuck out to me in the song reads, “Be the leading man, if I was less gay?” This has to do with is sexual orientation and It plays a large part in his life. I also found the lyrics ‘Anyway, if I have blue button eyes and blonde hay would I make the magazine on the best page?’ It has to do with also his physical appearance that holds him with the lower hand. Many of today “stars” are well stars because they look a certain way, it doesn’t matter if you’re talented, therefore many talented people are ignored. Honestly, I find the whole musical enchanting it hits on many subjects that are controversial (Ill link it below along with the music video). Overall, I find Todrick to be very inspirational because of the places he got out of and also the place where he is now.

Okay so 1. Todrick Hall is lit 2. Straight out of Oz is literally the only musical i'll watch/ listen to( My favorite songs are low and no place like home) 3.- I really relate to this for many of the same reasons, how mainstream celebrities have no talent or actual skill, and how society judges us on the way we look. Mainly because for the past forever i was really insecure about what I look like on the outside, when really you have to learn how to love yourself on the inside first. It also really annoys me how mainstream stars are just chosen for money and popularity, not actual talent. One of my favorite lines is "it takes big scars, better get a first aid" because it means that in order to get through the rough patches in life, you have to be able to know how and get through them independently, no one is going to come after you and hold your hand through them.

The poem I chose for my assignment was "still I rise." By Maya Angelou. I feel that the theme of this poem is no matter what people try to do to pull you down or oppress you you get back up you don't give up and then you say BOOM! I did it. When I read the poem Still I Rise there's one stanza that I think that would support this."You may shoot me with your words, You may cut me with your eyes, You may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I'll rise." This is one of the many stanzas in the poem that I think is important to develop the theme because it talks about one or more of many ways to a press a person. But the author is explaining that she still rises. This poem gives me a strong and independent vibe. But then it also reminds me of the saying haters is going to hate. This poem can go with the values and beliefs part of the identity web because this person obviously values not giving up and proving people wrong and also pushing through the most difficulty of things that people throw at you. At the end of the day people are still going to try to stop you from achieving your goal or being successful or just trying to stop you in general because of many reasons such as jealousy and Hate. I hope Anyone who reads this poem is inspired by it. One of the many reasons I chose this phone because it's very empowering whether you're dealing with stereotype saying you can't do something because you're a certain gender or stereotypes with raised or stereotypes would just who you are in general this poem could be inspiring to anyone dealing with any of those issues.

As i saw the prompt for this week i was like what am i going to write about. As i was looking up songs i came across the song "Daughters" by John Mayer. His song ties into Family and Relationships from the identity web. In the song he explains that fathers should be good to their daughters because once they grow up, they will grow up loving and doing things their fathers used to do. Identities come from what you have experienced in life and if you experience your father or mother doing the right thing or loving the right way, then that is how you will grow up to be/do. One part of the song i like is "You are the God and weight of her world." i really like this part of the song because in a way it is true. Girls look up to there dad to be a superhero, their provider, and there all, just like god is.

The song i picked for this is "Dark Enough" by Amanda Lopiccolo. This song deals with physical appearance. Even though the girl looked happy, on the inside she was hurting and depressed. This lyric from the song shows and explains "How does someone so perfect feel so insecure? As to scar her skin with cuts and burns. And still want to hurt more. How does someone so loving,Learn to hate her own guts? Drawing a picture on her arms with a blade, As if her mind isn't dark enough." Not all people show their emotions through their body language. You may be the happiest person alive but whats inside matters. The reason why i picked physical appearance is because of what i just said. So don't judge a book by its color even if the book is all colorful and cheerful because inside may be the darkest words you've ever read.

I love music, I was going through and listening to all of the songs that I haven't ever heard before and then I came to yours. I had no idea what "Dark Enough" was so I decide to listen to it. This song gave me chills, it is very true, yet hard to listen to. In the end it was talking about how they lost one of their peers to suicide. Listening to this artist sing about self harm was emotional and chilling. It made me realize the truth that someone can be hurting on the inside even if they seem fine on the outside.

When I read the the quote of this week I knew just the song to express one of the speres of identity web. As I was growing up my mom and I would listen to "Selena Gomez, Who Says". We would always go around the house singing, and every weekend we would watch the video and we would dance around and have fun. I just love this song and it is very catchy. In her song the words that get my attention every time are " I'm no beauty queen, I'm just beautiful me" what she is saying is that you don't have to be a beauty queen ,just be yourself because that's what makes you and what makes you beautiful. This song gave me the power to face challenges that I came across in life in the past and it also helps me now. I think this song has a great message to everyone and not just girls in general.

This song shows young girls that they are beautiful and not the top model type of beautiful. This song can fit into the category of physical appearance. What I like about this song is that it doesn't address those who think being pretty is everything. This song just shows that everyone is beautiful. This song is why Selena Gomez has became a teens idol.

I really like this song, i used to listen to this song when i was younger. I would interpret the song the same way you did. No matter what any body says you are all perfect in your own way. You should never let anybody tell you otherwise. "Who Says" is a really inspirational song with a powerful meaning and I am glad that somebody chose it.

I remember when I was younger I was basically in love with this song. I do not really think I quite understood the meaning but now that I do, I love this song even more. It gives off such an empowering message that so many people, especially teenagers in high school need to be told. Nobody is perfect, but that does not mean you aren't capable of doing anything, which is something I think Selena was trying to express. I have not really listened to this song in a very long time, but I will definitely have to go back and listen to it, now that you've mentioned it. :)

A couple posts ago I responded to a post that was about KISS, know I will create a post about GNR (Guns N` Roses). They have so many great songs to choose from, making it hard to actually choose one to focus on, but I finally found one to write about. "Patience," by GNR appearing on the album G N' R Lies is what I have chosen. This song`s theme is how that taking a relationship slowly will make everything turn out fine. This can be concluded by reading this statement,

I like how you did GNR!! They are a great band and I don't know how I didn't think of them first. They do have many goods songs such as Estranged, November Rain etc. I totally agree that GNR is one of the best bands in the world and arguably the best. I also like your song choice, great choice and great verse to choose it really brings the fact of identity out and really supports your theme really well. Great job!

First off, you were singing that song so much on Friday that it's now stuck in my head! I love the message that is behind the song. Over the past few months, I have sort of stopped listening to classic rock, yet this song is something that I still listen to. To me, the song isn't just a song about taking a relationship slowly, it's also a wonderful song to play. I remember as a kid, listening to it so I could teach myself the chords and playing those first few chords is sometimes the most satisfying thing ever. I really like how you chose a song like "Patience," not only, because it is a Guns and Roses song, but the meaning behind the song is great.

Although I don’t listen to rock songs, but this song is one of the only rock songs that I’ve heard before. The few rock songs that I’ve listened to before are all from the band GNR. The few songs that I’ve listened to are all great songs to me, including the song you wrote about. I don’t really know anything about being in a relationship, but I agree that taking things slowly would make everything fine and balanced. I also believed that when things aren’t balanced it could possibly lead to an end or a collapse in the relationship. I like how you chose this song because it really supports family/relationship of one’s identity by explaining one of main things in a relationship.

A poem , I personally don't like poems at all since it involves reading, and I absolutely hate reading. But anyways, back to this poem. The thought of being able to get up after being knocked down is a combination of having confidence, determination, and bravery. Being able to get back up is just a small part of life, something we all must get used to. Getting up gains us confidential power and determination to stand up to the demons we fear. Getting up is a habit that we all must get used to since it will be at every corner we turn, its inevitable. Being knocked down isn't the part that determines one`s life, its how they get up.

Instead of doing a song I decided to do a poem. I found a poem called, Blonde by: Thomas Tinkler (https://hellopoetry.com/poem/1159168/blonde/). This poem connects to the physical appearance sphere on the identity web. The theme focuses on how your appearance is not everything. Thomas talks about how being blonde means multiple things. It means you are modest, virtuous, attractive, and feminine. Thomas also writes, "Blonde is thought to be a mark of perfection." He explains how we are judge by our personal appearance. Thomas disagrees with this, your physical appearance does not necessarily dictate who you are. In the end, Thomas says, "Why does such arbitration continually define us? Mere colors shape who we are. Far more than a more fair method: talent, devotion, piety, character." Thomas is right, your appearance is not your identity other factors contribute as well.

As liberal as I am I still find myself sometimes thinking of stereotypes or applying stereotypes to others. It's something that is engraved into our society this day in age. I feel that appearance always affect everyone daily, either for positive or negative. I can also agree with Thomas's poem in the fact that physical appearance doesn't always define a person, it's honestly a terrible concept taught to us by society when we are young. I feel that identity and physical appearance may coincide but it doesn't necessarily define you as a human.

I agree with the poem, which is that appearance is not what defines us as a person. I agree with this because there are sometimes people with a bad appearance, but they turn out to be really nice and amazing people. I know some people that others dislike, and these people are better than others say. I think that this is one inspirational poem. If the world did not create poems like this one, there would be worse stereotypes made today about the appearance of a person.

I agree with this poem. What you wrote is similar to what I wrote. I wrote about how your appearance doesn't matter, and this poem also shows that. You also wrote about people being judged for their appearance, and I don't think that's fair. No one should be judged on what they look like, and the poem you chose shared this.

I've never heard of this poem but I love reading other people's blog post to see that there are so many unique songs and poems in the world that can really explain someone's life in a few words or just change their prospective on life. So when you talked about "Blonde" by Thomas i really connected with the quote you used at the end and I think the powerful part of the quote was "Why does such arbitration continually define us?" And it really makes you think like why do we let how people look on the outside define who they are, just because someone wears all black doesn't make them a creep because I met one girl in one of my summer camps who I thought would be really weird and I hoped I wouldn't have to work with her. But when I ended up working with her on a group project I felt like we instantly connected and I felt bad because I had judged her by how she looks on the outside but she was really a cool person. Anyway good job.

I still believe that physical appearance doesn't define a person. I like how he used one judgement about blondes to give an example of his poem. I chose the song. “Welcome to My Life”, by Simple Plan (https://genius.com/Simple-plan-welcome-to-my-life-lyrics). It’s relation to the Identity Web is defining moments and experiences. The song is about going through difficult things and feeling like you’re alone. My favorite line from the song is, “To be on the edge of breaking down and no one’s there to save you.” Whenever I hear that line, it speaks to me. A couple years ago I was going through a really difficult time of my life where I too felt like I was alone, until I found this song. It showed me that I was not alone and that other people also have difficulties they have to face in life. I like that someone made a song that’s not all happy and upbeat, but really down to earth and different. It describes the reality of how most people feel at some point in their life instead of sugar-coating it. Whenever I’m having a bad day I will listen to this song, and it motivates me to try to get myself together.

The song that I chose is "Scars to Your Beautiful" by Alessia Cara. I chose this song because to me, the theme is really important. The theme is that your appearance doesn't matter and you should be judged on how you are inside. My grandmother used to tell me "Pretty is just on the outside but ugly is through the bone." I think that is similar to the message that Alessia Cara was singing about because the whole song is saying that everyone is beautiful. When people are judged by others because of their appearance, it can crush their self esteem. This song is encouraging others to build confidence in theirselves. It also shows people that they shouldn't be affected by negative comments that people say. You should be more about uplifting people than tearing them down. Hopefully more artists will develop songs like this to encourage people to try to bring others up instead of push them down.

This is one of my favorite songs by Alessia Cara and it seems like everytime I listen to her music it just hooks me and I'm like "Wow that's deep". But what really hooked me to your post was what your grandmother said which was " pretty is just the outside but ugly is through the bone". What I interpreted from that was that you could be the most beautiful girl in the world but if your rotten to the bone or you have a bad heart people will cancel out the fact that your beautiful on the outside and scold you for what's on the inside.

The song i choose is "1-800-273-8255" by Logic. I chose this song because its all about suicide prevention and how there is always someone here for you. I remember learning about young children committing suicide and it really hit me how many suicides there are. Many kids every year are committing suicide and that rate is increasing. These kids have been bullied and abused by people at school, in public, and even at home where they are supposed to feel safe. There has been an increase in teen depression in the recent years which has led to an increase in suicide rates. This song has really touched me because Logic has written a song letting our generation know that there is always someone here and that we are never alone. I think this connects with the beliefs and values section on the identity web because this song lets kids believe that they are wanted and that someone wants them here. The music video (which is the link below) shows a young man who grows up with the struggle of being bullied for being bullied for being gay. It shows this man about to commit suicide but then deciding not to and calling the suicide hotline and realizing that he has people who want him here and that he is not alone. This song has a really powerful and moving message and this is why i choose it.

The first time i heard this song was while watching the MTV VMA's. I agree with you 100%, and it has helped and touched many others. I agree with you saying that it connects with beliefs and values, but i can also see it connecting with defining moments/ experiences. People that want to commit suicide had to go through something very drastic making them have that defining moment, so that is how i see to connect with defining moments and experiences.

The first song that popped into my head was “scars to your beautiful” by Alessia Cara. The song has a great message about indentiy and what you should think about you’re self. The song explains that looks aren’t everything to a person. You have to look deeper, like there personality and interest. Sure looks play a big role in what makes you, you but it’s doesnt define everything. Nobody is perfect. What’s on the inside is what counts. A lot of people focus on looks and judge people before knowing them. This song had a big message that everyone needs to listen too.

I like that song because it makes me, and a lot of other people in this world, more confident. I hate how society makes physical appearances a big priority, rather than what’s on the inside. The song creates a message that more people should listen to and take in. Like you said, nobody is perfect, but a lot of people now days try to make themselves “perfect” by becoming someone they aren’t.

Music is a big part of my life, from listening to that one song you really like on repeat for 46 hours straight, to just wanting to quickly escape the chaotic reality even if it's just for three minutes, it's played a big part in my life. I find myself turning to odd indie music to more alternative music such as Korn or Deftones. I noticed one thing though, the best music to listen to when you're felling down is nostalgic relatable music. I originally was going to choose a Portishead song but instead I decided to choose "Shake It Out" by Florence+ The Machine. Feeling emotionally attached to this song it's hard to choose just one verse. "I like to keep my issues drawn" is one line I can truly relate to, it's really beautiful to stop and think about what this truly means to one's identity. I tend to draw out how I feel, my emotions, or in this context my issues. I also seem to always focus on the negatives and never too much on the positives, I only dream of truly putting myself out there in more positive ways. Touching on a very sensitive subject I would say that this verse goes along with "talents and abilities" as well as "defining moments". Everyone deals with their issues differently and some of these can be caused by experiences, but as your life goes on just like how this song does, you cannot carry your burdens around. You must eventually "bury them in the ground".

The song "Titanic" by Russ speaks to me. It has a theme to stay positive in hard times. The song talks about a family that is struggling with financial problems. They are barely able to pay off bills. However, the artist is hopeful that he can save his family from the debt. For example, when the artist is being hopeful, he states,"Gotta just keep on swimming. Hold on I'm coming to rescue. You know I'm coming with some vests too." This is showing his Family and Relationships identity theme. He is showing that he is going to help his family out of this tough time. He is being positive. I like this song because of the deep message it has about the family struggling.

There were multiple things in Wicked that tied to identity. Physical appearance being one because in the musical they try to show that your outward appearance does not fully dictate who you are. This song is also another thing in Wicked that tied to the identity sphere. You were right when you said it makes the point that each relationship you have changes your beliefs, views, and opinions. Whether it be for better or for worse every relationship can change you.

A song that relates to me and the Identity Web is "Try" by Colbie Caillat. This is one of my favorite personal songs, but there are a lot of others that I relate to. This is relates to the Personal Appearance factor of the Identity Web because it talks about being the way you are. Personally, this song means that I shouldn't change for anyone and I need to like myself, so that I don't change for anyone. Originally I think the meaning is to be/love yourself and do not do anything that you don't want to do. A line that expresses the theme is when the key changes which is, "Wait a second, Why should you care what they think of you/ When you're all alone, by yourself, Do you like you?" We should all not let anyone make us want to change ourselves for them. The song lyrics that help support the theme of the is also the chorus:

One song that I can relate to is "Gold" by Britt Nicole. This song has a theme of self empowerment and acceptance. This song contributes to our identity lesson most importantly focusing in on “defining moments/experiences” and “physical appearance” identity circles. Throughout the song Britt is singing in a conversational tone telling the listeners that they shouldn't be afraid to be themselves, but embrace their own self image. Physical appearance is a huge part of one's identity and how people view an individual. These views can be a large turnaround moment for some people. Because of this the song can also classify in “defining moments/experiences”. Not only is she telling the audience to live their lives the way that best shows themselves, but she’s also displaying a large impact that her moment of realization has. The songs says, “...so don’t be ashamed to wear your crown you’re a king you’re a queen inside and out…” The significance of this line at the end of the song is to emphasize the fact that whether you feel like it or not you are important and matter. Sometimes I don’t feel the proudest of myself. I tend to compare myself to others, and I’ve been forcing myself to be who I am not what others expect of me. This song really speaks to me because it expresses how proud I am to be me! :)

I love 13 reasons why, but I didn’t know this song was in the sound track. I like the message this song gives, and I can relate to it, too. A lot of people keep toxic people in their life because they believe they need them. I can certainly say I have done so myself, but once they were gone I realized how terrible they were for me and how relieved I was they were gone. I think people do this because they’re afraid of what might come after they leave or of being lonely. The most important thing is to keep yourself happy, no matter the consequences.

The song that I chose is " take it back" by Logic. This song relates to race/ethnicity and cultural heritage. The first line is "Take it way way back to the first black man, long ago before the white man could paint the black man with a gun in his hand." This line refers to time in the past when black men didn't have any rights and weren't able to carry guns because a gun symbolized power. Blacks weren't allowed to have power in the past. Another line in the song is, "That door you trying to open you could shut that Grip the gat yeah that's how I'ma buck back." This line talks about the doors closed on black individuals like education and voting. The part where it says "Grip the gat yeah that's how I'ma buck back" refers to how men like martin Luther king try to fight for black rights but always get killed or are met with deadly force. Then there is my favorite line, "Masta deep down inside of me, the plantation deep down inside of me." This line represent logics biracial lineage, he has the slave and the master in his blood . This song isn't meant to cast blame on anyone, its meant to spread message of equality.

This is reminds me of history because we just finish talking about slavery and black people not getting rights. I liked how you included multiple lines which help supported the message which is equality. What I dislike is that the fact that not everyone has equality and I like how you spread the message that I will spread which will continue to spread to show that everyone deserves equality. But the good thing is that black people where able to get proper rights but only when someone got killed for standing up. We shouldn't be afraid to stand up for one another because it helps out people which they will help one another to make the world a better place.

He describes how people will call him a “white boy” when he really is biracial. Nowadays people are scared to say what you really think. Logic on the other hand isn’t afraid to say what he believes.

For this I chose Valley of The Dolls by Marina and the Diamonds. (Electra heart is her only good album!) This song relates to physical appearance, as well as your beliefs. I think the theme is something along the lines of "People aren't always who they say they are". This song is mainly about fake identities, just to please or suit society. Thus being how it ties into the physical appearance part, because fake identities may include wearing your hair a certain way or wearing a bunch of makeup or plastic surgery even. The beliefs part ties in because if you have a "fake identity", then chances are that you probably have the belief that you need one or have to have one for some reason whatever that may be. One line that I feel really drives this home is in the second verse, when she says, "Pick a personality for free

This is a great song choice! I love how you used "people aren't always who they say they are." The quote really gets down to the point of reality. Most people now in these days you really don't know who they really are. For some people you may meet them and be really energetic, fun, and exciting. However when you see them they may act mean, rude, or maybe even shy, and this may be because of what they have been through in life until you get to know them and see who they really are. Some people may also show you a big smile, be popular, and have alloys of friends, but you never know what's really going on inside their head and how they really feel. You really don't know who people are anymore some may even hide who they really are until they get to a breaking point.
